8 Free Icon Sets for App Designs

Designing an app and looking for some free icon sets that you can use on iOS and Android? Look no further. We’ve curated this list of some generic yet stylish and current icon sets that will make super additions to any of your app designs. Not only can you use the icons on iOS and Android, but they’re also simple and streamlined enough that they’ll look great on the small viewport of a mobile device, which is an important consideration when choosing icons for your mobile projects. Let’s get a little bit meta on this first icon set…if you’re using these icons in a mobile app designs, then your users will be looking at icons of phones while they’re on a phone. Totally meta. This great free resource comes with a lot of different representations of mobile devices, but also comes with icons that represent phone-adjacent things as well, such as headphones, wall chargers, and even USB cords.

This is a great set of simple icons that are perfect for general use. The design is minimalist and simple, so they’ll look great on mobile devices, and the range of different types of icons is wide. There are some basic emojis, a play button, and eye, a trashcan, a location marker, and so much more. You’ll be sure to find at least a handful of these relevant to almost any app.

If the app you’re designing has anything to do with work, stationary, offices, writing, libraries, or anything that could be considered work or study in any way, this free icon set is perfect for you. Again, this set has a simple and minimalist design and the icons are sure to render beautifully on any mobile device.

Discovering this versatile, comprehensive icon set is kind of like discovering gold for web designers and front end developers. The set comes with 10,000 (yes, that is ten THOUSAND) line icons that can be downloaded in any format and any color (even custom colors!) within seconds. Basically, this is a huge deal. Types of icons range from things like social media icons, to birthday cakes, to music notes, to chocolate chip cookies…pretty much anything you could ever imagine needing an icon representation of is covered — from practical to completely useless. This free set of 100 general purpose and general use icons is actually part of a much larger set, but to get the full collection you have to pay. However, the icon options that are available for free will surely go a long way and have a wide range in terms of subject matter.

8. Minima Line Icons

The final icon collection in our list is another simple, general purpose one. The icons in this set are modeled after those you see in iOS — the toggles, the paper airplane, the location marker, the clock, etc. If you’re developing an iPhone app, this collection is a great way to make your app look as though its seamlessly part of iOS.
